The team at Dover Port Mortuary provides care to families of U.S. Servicemembers who are killed overseas. When deceased military personnel return to the U.S. through Dover Air Force Base, the chaplains at AFMAO lead religious rites, pastoral care for families and the mortuary staff as they prepare the fallen to be returned to their loved ones. Using training gained from the grief companioning philosophy, as well as experiences honed through life, formal education, military, and hospital chaplain experiences, AFMAO chaplains provide care, service and support to families at Dover. Chaplain Kilgore will discuss how his team meets and cares for families at these traumatic times and the days immediately following their loss. He will also speak on his experience in assisting senior military leaders express condolences to families and the benefits of building rapport with a team and those you support.
