About the MFDA

About Us

For more than 90 years, the Maine Funeral Directors Association has been a critical resource for funeral practitioners and their staff throughout the entire state of Maine.  As the cornerstone of the professional community, MFDA provides a forum to share expertise and experience, develop the highest standards of ethical service, and create networking opportunities for service providers and all members of our profession.

A primary function of the organization is to provide legislative and regulatory advocacy on behalf of our membership. Other core activities include promoting the highest level of education, training, and practical solutions for our profession.  In this pursuit, MFDA sponsors continuing educational units for practitioners and staff at our statewide meetings and in more local events.

These events provide excellent opportunities for all members of our profession as well as vendors and other collaborators to network and share business-related information in an  informal setting.

Mission Statement

As funeral directors, our calling imposes upon us special responsibilities to those we serve and to the public at large. An important obligation is to provide information so that everyone can make knowledgeable decisions about services and products. In acceptance of our responsibilities, and as a condition of our membership in the Maine Funeral Directors Association (MFDA), we affirm the following standards of good funeral practice and hereby pledge to conduct ourselves in every way and at all times in such a manner as to deserve the public trust and to foster and perpetuate high ethical standards of funeral service.

Our Goals

Represent and support Maine’s funeral professionals by promoting the highest standards and excellence in funeral service.

Strive to make the association an informative, effective and progressive organization representing its members.

Contribute to long-term professional development in funeral service.
