7/6/2026 - Maine Veterans Cemetery - No Wooden Urns Allowed

We will no longer accept wooden urns for niche inurnments or in-ground cremation interments. Over time, we have encountered structural issues with these types of urns that have affected their long-term durability. We understand that some families may have already purchased wooden urns. We will continue to work with those families on a case-by-case basis to ensure a smooth transition.

1/1/2026 - MaineCare Eligibility Guidelines

The current burial contract exemption limit (effective 1/1/2026) is $18,985. You can find this information on page 5, section "Important Financial Figures Related to Long Term Care - Updated Annually" of the MaineCare Eligibility Guidelines chart located on the DHHS webpage. This increase is available as a result of the legislation that was initiated by the MFDA in 2023 (LD446/Chapter 34), that states that the amount of a prepaid burial contract that is considered unavailable for use as an asset in determining edibility for MaineCare must be increased by the same percentage as the percentage increase of the Consumer Price Index for the preceding year.
