MFDA is hosting OSHA Training two-part series at three locations (Presque Isle, Bangor and Auburn).  The training is approved by the Academy of Professional Funeral Service Practice and the State of Maine Board of Funeral Service Practice.  If interested in attending, please fill out the attached registration form and return to MFDA by 1/9/2019.

Course Descriptions:

Part 1 - Bloodborne Pathogen and Hazard Communications Standard (1 CEU)

Developed with funeral service attendants in mind, this program will provide participants with an overview and understanding of the Bloodborne Pathogen and Hazard Communication found in United States Department of Labor OSHA standards 29 CFR 1910.1030 and 29CFR 1910.1200 respectively. The presentation will explain how to read and understand a common material safety data sheet, as well as to gain a better understanding of bloodborne pathogens and their potential impact on funeral home employees among others. Note: required annually for Funeral Attendants by the Maine State Board of Funeral Service.

Part 2 - Formaldehyde Emphasis on OSHA’s requirements for personal exposure monitoring (1 CEU)

Will consist of an overview of the United States Department of Labor OSHA Standard 29 CRF 1910.1048 – Formaldehyde, with emphasis on OSHA’s requirement for personal exposure monitoring. Note: not required by Maine State Board of Funeral Service; however, please note that the United State Department of Labor requires air exposure testing to show that employees are not exposed at or above 0.1 parts per million of formaldehyde during worst case workplace exposures.
